The ones closest to Jesus gave up everything to follow him. They couldn’t fully understand what was to unfold but knew Jesus was to be king of a new kingdom.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
As they experienced the Easter story, from Palm Sunday to Pentecost, their world was turned upside down!
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
A king entering Jerusalem, yet he rode in on a donkey. A king claiming his rightful place, yet he goes into the temple and teaches.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
A king who kneels to wash his student’s feet and speaks of his leaving.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
A king arrested, beaten, and out of fear, denied by his own.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
A king crucified, dead, and buried. The tomb sealed and guarded. Is hope lost?
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
The third day the tomb is found empty, Jesus’ body gone! What does this mean?
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
Jesus appears, alive, to those close to him and gives them the task of teaching the world. Some doubt.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
With a new hope of Jesus establishing his kingdom, Jesus leaves again, ascending to heaven. His students are confused.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
Those closest to Jesus gather together in prayer. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit entered them and they understood!
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
Through the belief of Jesus’ witnesses and God’s grace through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit we’ve been given the anchor to a faith that will turn us and our world upside down; if we only believe.
I believe. Help me in my disbelief.
And let the people say, Amen.
